Description

A Hands-On Street Photography Experience

This workshop is the ideal follow-on from our 8-Week Beginner Course or half-day Photography Essentials session — but it also stands strong on its own. Designed for beginner to intermediate photographers, it offers a mix of technical learning, creative thinking, and real-world shooting.

Street photography covers a wide range of styles — candid portraits, urban details, light and shadow, unexpected moments. You’ll learn how to recognise those fleeting scenes, frame them with intent, and press the shutter at just the right time.

Guided by an experienced street photographer and long-time local, you’ll explore backstreets and bustling areas with a camera in hand. You’ll learn:
• What gear and settings work best for street photography
• How to read the light and anticipate moments
• Simple tips to improve your composition
• The timing of a great shot — the “decisive moment”
• Your legal rights and ethical considerations when shooting in public

It’s practical, informal, and taught by someone who knows the area inside out — and how to find images in the everyday.

*Final weather check will be made on the morning of the workshop. We’ll proceed in light showers, but will postpone in cases of persistent rain or storms.

N.B. Workshops run with a minimum number of participants.

  1. The 4-hour Kings Cross Street Photography workshop was very fun and informative. Before we started roaming the streets, Glenn took us through the elements of what makes a good street photograph by showing us some classic shots. He also talked about the legal considerations of street photography and preparing our cameras to shoot in the given conditions. We then spent 3 hours wandering the back streets of Kings Cross, the markets and also past some iconic spots – e.g. the Coke sign. During the course, he guided us in the basics of using natural light, using colour to maximum effect, how to do tracking shots – and we even did an impromptu street portrait session! A very enjoyable afternoon.

  2. I had a great time on the Street Photography workshop with Glenn Lockitch. Glenn is a very experienced photographer and shared his vast knowledge of photography with the group. We took some interesting photos around Kings Cross. Thank you Glenn for a great workshop!

  3. It was amazing

  4. I have participated in other photography courses and workshops over the years but this was the single best yet. A lot of instructors talk about weaning amateur photogs off manual, but Glen brings it to life in a practical way.

  5. Fantastic workshop.
I found the legal side of things regarding Street Photography most helpful and now will be more confident in my rights.
Glenn has inspired me to try and see light and subjects in a different way. And to then capture it correctly.
Based on this experience will do another course through SPW.
    Yvonne
