ABOUT

FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY IS THAT NEXT JUMP IN YOUR CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY JOURNEY AND OPENS UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF CREATIVE OPTIONS!

Discover the art of flash photography in our engaging half-day workshop tailored for beginners eager to master their Speedlite. This hands-on course covers the essentials of flash, focusing on both on-camera and single off-camera flash techniques. Begin with understanding flash basics, including TTL and manual modes, to effectively control lighting in various conditions. Learn how to use bounce flash and fill flash to reduce harsh shadows and create natural-looking images. Delve into balancing ambient light with flash to achieve well-exposed photographs in challenging lighting situations or transform your scene with bold premeditated lighting to make your subject pop.

Next, explore the creative possibilities of off-camera flash. We’ll guide you through setting up wireless flash triggers and positioning your Speedlite to add depth and dimension to your shots. Experience how a single off-camera flash can transform your photography, from adding drama to portraits to enhancing product shots. Throughout the workshop, you’ll practice with real-world scenarios, working with a model or still-life subjects to solidify your understanding.

By the end of this workshop, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to incorporate flash into your photography seamlessly. Whether you’re capturing portraits, events, or everyday moments, you’ll be equipped to enhance your images with professional-quality lighting any time.

We firmly believe that the most effective way to learn photography is through hands-on practice. However, it’s equally important to grasp the underlying theory before diving into the practical aspects. This workshop is thoughtfully structured to balance both elements.

Each session begins with a concise presentation on theory and inspiration, setting the foundation for the practical exercises that follow. After the shooting practice, we conclude with a question-and-answer session and social time, providing you with the opportunity to engage with your tutor and explore all things photographic.

Spaces are limited to 8, so book today to avoid disappointment.

  1. Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Off-Camera Flash workshop at Sydney Photographic Workshops. The course exceeded my expectations! The instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand explanations. We had the opportunity to practice with a model, which was invaluable. I’m so excited to continue my photography journey and explore the possibilities of off-camera flash. Highly recommend this workshop to anyone looking to elevate their photography skills!

  2. Daniel and Wendy consistently deliver outstanding photographic workshops, and their newly formatted Speedlite Essentials workshop is no exception. This revised course adeptly covers the fundamental principles of speedlight photography, making it an excellent preparatory resource for their upcoming 2025 intermediate Speedlite workshop.

Designed with clarity and practicality in mind, this course is particularly beneficial for beginners looking to grasp the intricacies of flash photography. To maximize the learning experience, I strongly recommend bringing your own TTL-enabled flash. This allows you to observe real-time results directly on your own camera, reinforcing the concepts covered in the course.

An invaluable educational opportunity for anyone eager to master speedlights, this workshop sets a solid foundation for future photographic endeavours.

  3. Speedlite photography workshop, my third workshop with SPW.
The bombardment of valuable knowledge and tips on the topic of flash photography which i received from Daniel will immensely guide me along this road of photography I have chosen to embark upon.
TO NOTE : I had no previous experience with flash photography at all!
This workshop I guess is for everyone and anyone who is serious and sincere in photography!
And it would be a miss if I don’t mention the hospitality and ease that Wendy provided!
    Chocolates and all.
    Thank you Wendy!

  4. This is my 2nd workshop with SPW, of all the many workshops I’ve attended from other providers – I have learnt the most right here at SPW. Really enjoyable as well as so much learning! thank you SPW, I’ll be back for more!

  5. Thanks for the great Speedlite workshop on Saturday. Lots of information presented in an understandable way with practical demonstrations. The two shoots with the models were great fun and I’m really happy with the images I was able to capture on the day.
