Glenn is professional photographer with the rare ability of conveying his vast experience in photography in a simple but, make -sense fashion. He started the workshop with the definition of photography, the exposure triangle. Explained each one of the three parameters, with the chance of each one of us to try different settings and asking questions. Glenn was so patient and tolerant and he was genuinely keen on answering and explaining why and how. And the four hour workshop ( he was generous enough to spend longer than 4 hours) ended with explaining and trying our hands with the “manual mode” and the Gray card. Enjoyed every minute of the four hours and learnt a lot . Would keep an eye on any more Of Glenn’s workshops with the Sydney Photographic Workshops .

Such an excellent workshop! The workshop took me on a journey from a beginner intimidated by the buttons and settings on my camera (beyond the “auto” setting), to a keen photographer with an (high level!) understanding of what the settings means and how to use them – all in a single afternoon!!! Glenn was an excellent (and patient!!) teacher – great explanations of the settings and photographic techniques – each with plenty of opportunity to test the effect of each setting on our photos – such a great learning method! This is no dusty, dull, cobwebby course in a room scribbling notes that won’t make sense in 20 minutes, but instead is an applied, hands on, learning experience (on your camera!) that gets the neurons firing and leaves you with a hunger to go and practice all the new techniques you’ve gained.

We had a great afternoon with Daniel learning about the functionality of our camera and both the theory and hands-on practice of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and more. Everything was taught at a pace and style that made it easy to understand, despite being quite complex! Thanks Daniel! My husband enjoyed it so much that he’s now signed up for the full 8 week course.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 hours with Glenn. There was a lot to take in and would like to have had the opportunity to recap a few things, but I understand that time was a limiting factor. Glenn was extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions precisely. I couldn’t wait to get home to try out what I had learned. Definitely worth the money and I would love to do something similar again. Thank you Glenn for your patience.

It was nice to have the individual things, that we have control over, explained so they could be easily understood. Then to practise those things so that the differences could be seen so easily was extremely good.
I came away understanding my camera a lot better, and what I can control. Now I think that I will be able to get better use of my camera and be able to enjoy it more.
    Thanks Glen

Received a gift voucher as a 30th bday present. A great course for anyone who wants to learn how to use their camera and venture around sydney learning how to take photos and understand the basic functions. Glen is a great teacher and very patient with going over things and very knowledgable. A must do course for any beginner, however one critism is that you are not provided notes or a handout of what you learnt which for me i think would be great as some learn better when they got something to follow and make notes on. Still a great course and a must for those wanting to learn the basics before reading about them

Ben was excellent and catered to all levels of experience within our group. My partner and I both enjoyed the workshop and the time flew. Importantly for me was cutting through the technical jargon and making the art of photography easier to understand. Ben did this easily. It’s inspired me to further research how to get the most out of my camera and where not to waste my time. I have a big overseas trip coming up and it’s motivated me to start practicing the techniques Ben showed us now – and not fumble my way around overseas. I’d recommend this workshop to anyone – it’s great value for money.

I really enjoyed this course with Fiona. She was able to give everyone attention, and the group was small and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed this half day workshop. Everything I have read finally came together! He often tested us which is the best way to learn and to make sure you are listening. The class was everything I needed it to be, it was all about how to use your camera, not about taking fancy shots! I loved it so much I have signed up to the night workshop too. Thank you Glenn for your patience and assistance throughout the day!

Glenn really surprised me with his photography skills and the way he shared to us during our workshop recently to a totally beginner photographer like me, he however manged to make me understand what is the meaningful of capturing a picture really means. He said it doesn’t matter of how good or how costly of a camera that you having right now, it is always of how good of developing our eyes, towards the lights we see, we are born with sight, the best way to understand and communicate with light the stronger our photography skill will become.

I really enjoyed my first ever photography class. I attended the workshop with a camera without a memory card and both batteries were flatten during 2/3 of the class. Glenn is really considerate that he eventually passed me his spare memory card and his own camera for me to try out instead.

A few hours with a professional cameraman are really an awesome
    experience. thank you

A very enjoyable and rewarding introductory workshop for those who want to get more out of their digital camera by understanding and taking control of its various setting.
Getting to the course was a breeze by public transport so leave the car at home.
We had a small group with nearly as many camera types as people, from “purse” units through to high end Canon & Nikons but Ben (our tutor) had a vast knowledge of each camera’s terminology, operation and menu structure so everyone was able to follow easily.
Ben did a great job of showing us the effect of each of the camera’s setting in a well structured methodical manner using practical examples as we moved around the area.
The venue of Circular Quay & The Rock gave us plenty of scope for “playing”, in what has to be one of the most beautiful classrooms you could ever imagine.
From city scapes to harbour views.. pedestrians to fast moving cars.. textures, colours & high contrast.. close up & wide angle.. focal length & zooming.. Manual exposure, shutter speed, ISO, aperture & depth of field.. semi-automatic to fully manual operation, we played with it all.
Lots of hints on composition from “arty” to “practical” along the way using the actual examples as we came upon them. Clearly this didn’t “just happen”, it had been well planned and thought out.
A great workshop and highly recommended.

I attended the Photography Essentials course on Sat Oct 8th, and it was well worth the time and money. Glenn Lockitch was a great instructor, progressively introducing camera functions until we were ready to shoot in full manual mode. We were never rushed, and he took the time to explain not just how to use each setting, but why they mattered and how they impacted each other and the final image. Great session!

A well structured afternoon that took us systematically through the functions of DSLR camera.
The sights chosen for each segment helped augment the practice of each step and function of your camera. Glen did a superb job in providing a clear explanation and ensuring each participant was able to implement the step or stage of instruction. The structure of the afternoon taught me more about the creative side of my Canon then I had learnt in the last five years of ownership. Now it is up to me to practice and internalise the steps taught.
Thank you Glen and SPW for a well organised and superbly executed workshop.

This beginners course is a fantastic introduction to the fundamentals of digital photography. For anyone who has been too intimidated to move away from the “auto” function, this is a great way to learn what the various settings are, what they do, and how they interact. Our tutor Glen was able to take us through the basics step by step, with clear explanations and practical demonstrations. By the end of the session, we had a working understand of our cameras, and the confidence to start experimenting in Av, Tv and manual. Thanks to Sydney Photographic Workshops for a very well planned practical introductory course!

I have only had my DSLR for a couple of weeks and this was a wonderful way to take it out for its maiden voyage. Quite aside from the stunning location, Glenn is a fantastic teacher. He shared a wealth of information, which we were able to put into practice on the spot. He took us through aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, taught us some tricks of the trade, as well as lots of other things to keep in mind when taking photos (light, motion, composition, etc.). The small group of ten meant he was able to address us all as a group, then assist us individually if needed.

I went with a friend who has had her DSLR for years and loved brushing up on old things as well as learning new functions and features of her camera. So this is definitely a great course for beginners and/or people wanting to understand manual photography and their camera better. Thank you so much for a fantastic and informative four hour session!

I have just finished the photography essentials workshop and am thoroughly pleased with it. Glenn was a great tutor who took time to explain concepts clearly and concisely. He was very approachable, answered questions thoughtfully and is obviously passionate about photography. I would recommend this workshop for anyone starting out or needing a brush up on long forgotten concepts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop which saw a small group of us walk from Circular Quay to the Rocks and learn copious amounts of new tricks and tips with our cameras. Glenns explanations were clear and explicit …… A fantastic experience and I learnt a lot even as a Photography teacher myself.

Glenn is very professional with the participants in the course, checking that each person has understood what he has said and making sure that they can operate their cameras to utilise each of the functions he is explaining.
