Definitely value for money, tutor knowledgeable and helpful (camera tips, ways around different cameras etc) I would recommend this course for anyone who needs a grasp on the basics of learning your camera.

I absolutely loved this course and was money well spent. To finally understand how to use my camera on manual mode is something I always wanted to do, but found YouTube videos too complex to follow. The 8 week course was well set out with activities you could practice during the week to master skills such as depth of focus, composition, exposure etc.
Now I use my camera on manual mode all the time and my pictures have definitely improved, with even family and friends noticing as well.
Our tutor Sarah was fantastic, easy to talk to and very patient. The field trip she took us on bought everything we learned into practice.
Highly recommend this course to everyone who wants to learn about their camera.

This course was exactly what I needed. I had some understanding of photography, but wasn’t capturing all my camera (or editing) could do. It gave me the knowledge and forced me to go out and practice — building my skills week by week. My photos have improved, I’m always shooting in manual mode and I no longer resort to relying on my iPhone to capture the moment because shooting on my DSLR is now just as easy. I highly recommend.

Excellent course. Well structured and thorough. Field trip in the city brought it all together.

Really good course, definitely worth the money and I learned a lot. I had some basic understanding of photography beforehand but I didn’t know how to handle a DSLR or apply the knowledge I already had – now I do! My camera is now exclusively on manual mode and my photos are already a couple of levels above where I started. I know what all the functions do and I know what to look for when buying equipemnt. Great course 🙂

Really informative. I learnt so much over the 8 weeks. Our tutor, Glenn, was really patient and knowledgeable. I wish I’d done something like this years ago. So many wasted photo opportunities just because I didn’t know what I was doing! The field trip was a really good idea and a great chance to put into practice what we’d learnt.

Great course, very easy to follow, Sarah was very patient and careful in her explanations. No questions were considered to stupid or slow, she was great.
I feel much more confident using my camera on manual now and will be practicing lots from now on
Can’t wait to see our top 30

This was an enjoyable and thorough course and I learnt a lot more than I thought I would. Even after having training in design, taking plenty of iPhone photos of the years and experimenting with a DSLR camera through trial and error and online tutorials, I still learnt so much that I didn’t know. I have gained more confidence and an even stronger love for photography after this course. Fiona is an encouraging teacher, explains things well and was welcoming of plenty of questions. The content, pace and structure of the course was great – I would highly recommend it!

The course content is fantastic and our tutor, Glenn Lockitch, was simply brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to taking the camera in my own hands, rather than relying on auto functions. I recommend the course unreservedly to all budding photographers!

So glad I booked to do this course. Wendy and the team were so accommodating with my need to change classes and do catch ups given a busy work schedule. Finally things started to click and I feel comfortable in manual mode and understand white balance and metering! Glenn was very patient and explained things well. Can see myself booking another course soon.

This course was excellent. I knew a bit about photography – or so I thought! I did learn so much and can’t wait to try it out. Some of the technical stuff was a bit hard to understand but Ben made the effort to help wherever possible. The field trip was fantastic and perfectly timed with Vivid on! I’m now going to do far more with my camera than I ever thought I would. Well worth the effort to do the course.

An absolutely fantastic course to take. I thoroughly recommend (and have been) to anyone and everyone. There is a huge amount of joy in going from just pointing and shooting to actually taking a series of photos you feel quite surprised and proud of. This is a great course to pick up the basics and get a taste to develope your new found skills more! A huge thank you SPW!

For a person who always used Auto – when Frank said ‘you’ll be off the Auto mode and onto Manual mode by lesson 4’ – I just smirked. Lo and behold – I am on all modes but NOT Auto. GREAT teacher and support team at SPW. Learnt so much and the eight lessons was paced well so no student in the class was left out. I now know my camera, and understand what I am doing and why… For anyone remotely interested in photography or getting to know their camera and its capabilities, take this SPW course. Great value for money!

I have been on Auto mode all of my life (Because I have zero understanding on Manual). After the course I prefer to use Manual Mode now as I can take an image however I want to take it. The first time I was able to comprehend and able to take photo of drops of water from a fountain was a confidence moment that I can really do this. To the credit of the tutor, the course was enjoyable too. Thank you.

As a new time user of a camera that uses various lens, I’m happy to say that I know use a fully manual operation, instead of the auto mode. The teachers go out of their way to fully explain the how and why you can use your camera. The evening session through the rocks and circular quay is fantastic and gives the student a insight into night photography and is well worth the time.

Thanks to our tutor Frank, I am able to confidently say that I can now shoot in manual! The 8 weeks Beginner Course was worthwhile and enjoyable. Frank was incredibly patient, enthusiastic and knowledgable. Theory/concepts were explained followed by the practical application of the theory with Frank pointing out what we should be looking out for, it really helped solidify our understanding. The pace of the course did not feel rushed and there was time for individual assistance. The SPW team are really supportive of each students participation in the course and to get the most out of the course – thank you. I would recommend this course by SPW for anyone who wants to learn more about a camera other than its auto mode!

I would like to also thanks to Kim Christopher Welinski as he was very patient with beginners as well as very specific with advanced photographers. I have spent lots of time searching on internet, but you had it all covered with supporting notes, great mentor at nice location. Thank you so much. I will be in touch.

Glenn is an amazing tuotor with a world of knowledge and passion. He was always more than willing to help me out and answer any of my questions after class.
I cannot stress this course enough it is worth every penny and you will pick up more than just the basics. I’m definitely looking forward to further courses in the near future.

SPW has a lovely welcoming vibe, even though it was later in the evening and after a long day at work I found the atmosphere to be quite up-beat and I was able to sit through the modules quite easily and happily.

I’m very glad I took part in the course, meeting some great people, and Kim was a great wealth of knowledge and passes this on in an friendly, easy manner. I now have a great r understanding of the process and the art. The final night was a treat and I have to say that while each of us talked our submitted images down, truly there were some fantastic photographs tak n. I think some of my fellow students will go far. I have no hesitation in recommending this course to anybody.
