I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop which saw a small group of us walk from Circular Quay to the Rocks and learn copious amounts of new tricks and tips with our cameras. Glenns explanations were clear and explicit …… A fantastic experience and I learnt a lot even as a Photography teacher myself.

This course was absolutely fantastic. The outdoor setting and the different locations demonstrating different topics was really great. I went out shooting the next day and felt more confident and efficient when using manual! Glen had a wonderful ability to make what seemed complex topics very simple and easy to execute. I will definitely be signing up for the 8 week beginner course.

Course was SO good! Lots to learn as a complete DSLR beginner but Glenn explained clearly and paced it all really well. Was really inspired to get out next day and practise.
    Really great!

    :

As someone who has always been interested in photography, but only recently bought a decent DSLR, this course was exactly what I needed to gain an excellent introduction and understanding on using my camera. Glenn was extremely thorough and made sure everyone in the group understood what he was saying and how to implement it to their own cameras (of which there were 3 or so completely different types of cameras within the group). Will definitely recommend and will likely be looking into further courses with Sydney Photographic Workshops!

Bought as a gift for my daughter-in-law. Rated it based on her feedback. She loved the course and seemed to come away not only inspired, but with confidence.
It was a good choice for s gift.
If a course is a gift, would it be possible to correspond directly with the recipient?

Just wanted to pop you a note to say how much I loved today. It was fantastic. So much fun. Learned so much in a short period. Glenn is a great teacher! The exercises were great and varied. Great tips. Simple language for novices. It was great not having a group any larger than it was too. Fab. Fab. Fab. Loved it! What a memorable day.

    :

Our group consisted of generally beginner photographers with a range of cameras. Glenn was very attentive to each of us, taking us through the basics of a cameras operation from semi-manual to fully manual. He explained in language which was easily understood.
    The location was excellent.

    :

Enjoyed the PHOTOGRAPHY ESSENTIALS immensely. Glenn was very patience and knowledgeable and took time to ensure we all understood what he was explaining. Now have enough confidence to switch off AUTO and try some MANUAL shooting with a reasonable expectation of what’s going to happen and also try some different things.

It was a very enjoyable and informative 4 hours. Glenn was very helpful and expressed a very complex subject simplistically and covered a broad range in a short period. It wet the apatite and encourages you to take your photography to an other level. I would be pleased to refer people to you.

This workshop was a fantastic introduction to the basics of photography. The content was relevant and has gave me a lot to take away and work on. It was delivered in an effective way and significant time was afforded to each individual to ensure everyone got as much as possible out of the day. I ‘d have no hesitation recommending this course to others.

Very useful course. De-mystified the controls of my camera as well as explaining the essentials of photography. Glenn was very patient with us as he taught us some fundamental techniques which will allow us to experiment with the variables. Great value for money

    :

Great 4 hours! Glenn was very informative and professional making sure all participants understood all aspects of their cameras!! Will definitely do another course. The only suggestion I would have is to perhaps give all participants a handout at end of course covering what they have learnt.

    :

I have only had my DSLR for a couple of weeks and this was a wonderful way to take it out for its maiden voyage. Quite aside from the stunning location, Glenn is a fantastic teacher. He shared a wealth of information, which we were able to put into practice on the spot. He took us through aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, taught us some tricks of the trade, as well as lots of other things to keep in mind when taking photos (light, motion, composition, etc.). The small group of ten meant he was able to address us all as a group, then assist us individually if needed.

I went with a friend who has had her DSLR for years and loved brushing up on old things as well as learning new functions and features of her camera. So this is definitely a great course for beginners and/or people wanting to understand manual photography and their camera better. Thank you so much for a fantastic and informative four hour session!

Glenn was great! Really informative and really laid back. He knew exactly what he was talking about and helped everyone navigate through their own cameras. I’ve had my camera for a while and within the first half hour I learnt a handful of techniques that I’ve never known. A very well worth class !

    :

This beginners course is a fantastic introduction to the fundamentals of digital photography. For anyone who has been too intimidated to move away from the “auto” function, this is a great way to learn what the various settings are, what they do, and how they interact. Our tutor Glen was able to take us through the basics step by step, with clear explanations and practical demonstrations. By the end of the session, we had a working understand of our cameras, and the confidence to start experimenting in Av, Tv and manual. Thanks to Sydney Photographic Workshops for a very well planned practical introductory course!

    :

A well structured afternoon that took us systematically through the functions of DSLR camera.
The sights chosen for each segment helped augment the practice of each step and function of your camera. Glen did a superb job in providing a clear explanation and ensuring each participant was able to implement the step or stage of instruction. The structure of the afternoon taught me more about the creative side of my Canon then I had learnt in the last five years of ownership. Now it is up to me to practice and internalise the steps taught.
Thank you Glen and SPW for a well organised and superbly executed workshop.

I attended the Photography Essentials course on Sat Oct 8th, and it was well worth the time and money. Glenn Lockitch was a great instructor, progressively introducing camera functions until we were ready to shoot in full manual mode. We were never rushed, and he took the time to explain not just how to use each setting, but why they mattered and how they impacted each other and the final image. Great session!

    :

A very enjoyable and rewarding introductory workshop for those who want to get more out of their digital camera by understanding and taking control of its various setting.
Getting to the course was a breeze by public transport so leave the car at home.
We had a small group with nearly as many camera types as people, from “purse” units through to high end Canon & Nikons but Ben (our tutor) had a vast knowledge of each camera’s terminology, operation and menu structure so everyone was able to follow easily.
Ben did a great job of showing us the effect of each of the camera’s setting in a well structured methodical manner using practical examples as we moved around the area.
The venue of Circular Quay & The Rock gave us plenty of scope for “playing”, in what has to be one of the most beautiful classrooms you could ever imagine.
From city scapes to harbour views.. pedestrians to fast moving cars.. textures, colours & high contrast.. close up & wide angle.. focal length & zooming.. Manual exposure, shutter speed, ISO, aperture & depth of field.. semi-automatic to fully manual operation, we played with it all.
Lots of hints on composition from “arty” to “practical” along the way using the actual examples as we came upon them. Clearly this didn’t “just happen”, it had been well planned and thought out.
A great workshop and highly recommended.

I agree with the other reviews on this website. Glenn was very professional and patient and knew his stuff! A delightful class that was long enough but not long enough at the same time! This is a great class for beginners and I look forward to doing other courses with you.

    :

Glenn really surprised me with his photography skills and the way he shared to us during our workshop recently to a totally beginner photographer like me, he however manged to make me understand what is the meaningful of capturing a picture really means. He said it doesn’t matter of how good or how costly of a camera that you having right now, it is always of how good of developing our eyes, towards the lights we see, we are born with sight, the best way to understand and communicate with light the stronger our photography skill will become.

I really enjoyed my first ever photography class. I attended the workshop with a camera without a memory card and both batteries were flatten during 2/3 of the class. Glenn is really considerate that he eventually passed me his spare memory card and his own camera for me to try out instead.

A few hours with a professional cameraman are really an awesome
    experience. thank you

I thoroughly enjoyed this half day workshop. Everything I have read finally came together! He often tested us which is the best way to learn and to make sure you are listening. The class was everything I needed it to be, it was all about how to use your camera, not about taking fancy shots! I loved it so much I have signed up to the night workshop too. Thank you Glenn for your patience and assistance throughout the day!

This was an great course for beginners and Glenn was an excellent teacher. He clearly explained all of the topics and made sure everyone was engaged and kept up with the rest of the group. It was clear that this is his passion and that he enjoyed teaching the subject.
The class was not only valuable in teaching the basics of photography but its also really enjoyable day. I’d highly recommend this course to other beginners and will likely enrol in more advanced classes in the future.

I really enjoyed this course with Fiona. She was able to give everyone attention, and the group was small and friendly. The walk around Circular Quay and The Rocks presented lots of great photo opportunities to try different styles. I am a beginner and it was a great way to learn about my new camera.
